Experience That Works Opposed Car Tax Hike. Opposed Gray Davis' $3.5 billion car tax increase and worked with Governor Schwarzenegger to repeal the tax. Awarded "Hero of the Taxpayer" by the Americans for Tax Reform and received "A" Grade by Cal-Tax for her staunch opposition to higher taxes.
Control Spending. Worked with Governor Schwarzenegger to control government spending, balance the budget, and build a rainy day reserve.
Cut Bureaucratic Waste. Supports the Governor's call for performance reviews to root out government waste and hold bureaucrats more accountable to taxpayers. Save Taxpayers Millions. Helped save millions of taxpayer dollars by shining a spotlight on the gross mismanagement of state government contracts.
Our Fair Share. Co-authored legislation to require the state to return to Orange County $4.3 million a year in local property tax dollars that are spent elsewhere.
To Strengthen California's Economy Reforming Workers' Compensation. Supported the Governor's plan to strengthen California's economy by reforming workers' compensation laws that chased jobs out of California.
Reducing Frivilous Litigation. Worked with the Governor to overhaul the so-called "Sue Your Boss Law", which invited frivilous lawsuits upon business owners.
Fighting for O.C.'s businesses. Scored 100% on Orange County Business Council's Legislative Scorecard on bills that would directly affect the costs of doing business in California.
To Improve Our Schools
Hold Schools Accountable.Authored landmark law this year that adds more standards, controls and accountability over the development and approval of school district budgets.
Smaller Class Sizes. Authored legislation to preserve Class Size Reduction Program for grades K-3.
Local Control. Has fought hard to give local communities a greater say in how their students are educated. Recognized as "2004's Outstanding Legislator of the Year" by the California School Boards Association.
21st Century Classrooms. Authored landmark law to enable schools to provide online classes to their secondary school students.
Funding Fairness for O.C.'s Low-Wealth Schools. Successfully worked with Governor Schwarzenegger to substantially increase per-pupil funding in Orange County's schools.
To Reduce Violence
Anti-Terrorism. Co-authored legislation to stiffen penalties for providing material support for terrorists, crack down on terrorist money laundering operations, and more severely punish those who participate in hoaxes that waste law enforcement's time and resources.
Sex Offenders/Megan's Law. Helped enact landmark law to allow parents and others to access free information about sex offenders -- including their names, photos and home addresses -- via the Internet.
Domestic Violence. Authored legislation to provide minors the same domestic violence protections as adults.
Elder Abuse. Enhanced the abilities of law enforcement to protect the elderly from physical abuse.
To Better Our Community
Making Housing More Affordable. Wrote legislation to make housing more affordable in Orange County.
Caring for Our Elders. Worked closely with seniors on legislation to ensure that crucial services for the frail, elderly, such as home-delivered meals and nursing care, are not reduced or eliminated during a state budget stalemate. Recognized as "2004 Assemblymember of the Year" by the California Association of Homes and Services for the Aging.
To Improve Orange County Transportation
Traffic Relief. Co-authored legislation that allowed the Orange County Transportation Authority to purchase and expand lanes on State Route 91 Toll Road to help relieve the horrible traffic congestion there.
Funding for Roads and Highways.Helped secure passage of ACA 4, which dedicated a consistent stream of revenue to build roads, highways and other transportation projects without raising taxes.
State Route 90. Authored law to permit City of Yorba Linda to pursue traffic safety and beautification projects on Imperial Highway -- at no cost to state taxpayers.
